CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Monday welcomed Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud’s suggestion to make the Supreme Court judgments available in all Indian languages.
Stalin tweeted, “This along with our long-pending demand of allowing the use of state official languages in high courts will bring justice closer to the common people of our country.”
He was replying to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet backing the CJI’s pitch for making the judgments available in every Indian language. The CJI was recently speaking at an event organised by the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in Mumbai.
Welcoming the suggestion, PMK founder S Ramadoss said the Supreme Court introduced the release of judgments in regional languages in July 2019. However, it suffered setbacks, and the proposed scheme should go on without interruptions.
“The Union government and the Supreme Court should also realise the demand of Tamil as official language of the Madras high court. The state government should adopt a resolution again in the upcoming assembly session,” Ramadoss said.
TMC leader G K Vasan said the verdicts released in regional languages would help people know the prevailing problems, cases, investigations and judgments, and would support the welfare of the country and its growth.
